Professor John Beilby

Research Interests: Cardiovascular Genetics, Biochemistry

Dr John Beilby was a Clinical Scientist at PathWest and is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Biomedical Sciences, University of Western Australia. He was Head of the Department of Diagnostic Genomics Laboratory in PathWest at the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre, Nedlands WA. He graduated from the University of Western Australia with a BSc(Hons) and PhD; completed a Fellowship of the Australasian Association of Clinical Biochemistry (FAACB), is a Member of the Human Genetics Society of Australasia (MHGSA) and a Founding Fellow of the Faculty of Science, The Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FFSc(RCPA)). He has had a strong interest in clinical research and teaching in the areas of genetics and clinical biochemistry. His research areas include studying genetic variants and biomarkers associated with ageing, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and respiratory diseases. Dr Beilby was Chairman of the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Research Advisory Committee for 5 years, board member of the Sir Charles Gairdner Research Foundation, member of the RCPA Chemical Pathology Panel of Examiners, Vice-Chair of the Busselton Research Institute Board (2017-18) and member of the NHMRC Research Translation Faculty. In 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2017 he was recognised as an author of highly cited papers by the University of Western Australia.

Dr Beilby has now retired from fulltime work to follow his research interests.
