VALE RUPERT (BARRY) RUBIE

It is with much sorrow that the BPMRI acknowledges the passing of former Board Member Mr Barry Rubie on the 25th December 2022.

Barry Rubie OAM was a stalwart of the Busselton Health Study for over 20 years as a dedicated supporter of research, a repository of knowledge, common sense and wisdom. With high principles, generosity and wise guidance he served selflessly on both the Board of the BPMRI and the WA Asthma Foundation and made enormous contributions to tackling respiratory health in Western Australia. His enthusiasm, drive and quick-witted sense of humour worked wonders to allay anxiety and restore calm when difficult and complex decisions were to be made and ensured things got done efficiently and with the best possible outcomes for organisations and patient groups he represented. His efforts and dedication to community were recognised with the awarding of a Medal of the Order of Australia in 2010. One of life’s true gentlemen, Barry is deeply missed by all.
